It seems that sandwich shops are popping up all over the Cypress/Cy-Fair area. So my husband and myself decided to try three popular shops, and see how they compared.
The three shops we decided to compare were, Subway, Jersey Mikes, and Schlotzsky’s. Below are not only comparison of taste but ingredients, sandwich options, and bread to ingredient ratio.
Subway
Subway is the most known of sandwich shops. If ingredient choices are important to you, this is your place. Subway has multiple choices in bread, meat, toppings, and sauces. This being said, I have gone to Subway for years, but with each new addition I have found the flavor has declined. No longer do they ask about the oil and vinegar salt and pepper, the basics of the original sandwich. They also have reduced the amount of meat. They will pour on the vegetables, but at the end you barely know you have meat on your sandwich.. So, in the end assessment by both myself and my husband, despite a ton of choices; Subway lacks flavor. The prices are very cost effective, but considering the Subway of the past; the new Subway of today does not pass the taste test.
Jersey Mike’s Subs
Jersey Mikes has a great selection of both hot and cold subs. My favorite aspect however is the Mike’s Way.which is onions, lettuce tomatoes, vinegar, oil, and spices. That does not mean you cannot deviate from those choices. but it has not changed it’s original sandwich concept. Selection, they have limited topping choices and bread selections. I and my husband do not mind that because it is not complicated. As far as ingredients, the meat to bread was fabulous. The additional toppings fresh. It is not as cost effective as Subway, but money well spent.
Schlotzsky’s
Schlotzsky’s may have my bias because of it’s origins in Austin, Texas. They do however have an immense selections of not only sandwiches, but both soup, salad, and pizza. Most locations also partner with Cinnabon. Who couldn’t love that! The most wonderful aspect of this sandwich is the bread. The bread is light and airy. The ratio to meat, and toppings is perfect. My personal favorite is the Original. This being said there are several different sandwiches to choose from. From a value aspect, I think that compared to the other three sandwich shops, this is the best bang for your buck.
