It has taken me has taken me four days to post this review because I have never been more angry leaving a restaurant in my life.I took this time to process my thoughts based on my experience. My husband and myself arrived rather early for a Friday night around 6:30 p.m. We were seated promptly and greeted quickly by our waitperson. Our drink choices came out quickly, but allowed us time to peruse the menu.
We were given some bread and Italian style olive oil. The olive oil mixture had honestly no flavor. We quickly ordered our entrees. I ordered the Pollo Ala Cacciatora, my husband the Petti Di Pollo Val D’Asosta. I chose the Minestrone soup as my appetizer, my husband the Caesar salad. The first round was beautifully presented. Shaved mozzarella offered and both first courses were very good.
Then came the entrees. I immediately identified that the chicken breast for both of our entrees were 1/3 of a total chicken breast. Both of our sauces were thin and totally in need of the most element salt. The penne pasta I received was better then my entree. My husband had the same reaction. The chicken was not only thin but shoe leather over cooked. Not good.
Our waitperson checked in and asked how were we enjoying our meal. I told her my problem with both of our entrees, to which she immediately went to get the chef. That’s when the dining experience went down fast. Let me just preface this portion by stating I have taken the certified food manager regulatory by the state of Texas seven times. I never received a score below 97%. So when I speak to a chef I come from a place of knowledge. The chef was immediately confrontational. “So what’s a matter with your food” were the first words out of his mouth. Um OK ,I had never been addressed in that manner before;, but explained my dissatisfaction with both mine and my husbands over cooked chicken. The chef then tried to belittle my concerns by telling me that I obviously didn’t know what was the safe cook temperature of chicken. Quite offended by his manner and bully tactic; I informed the chef of my food service background and my history of being a certified food manager. His reply was “Fine you want me to serve you raw chicken I will get it for you right away”. At this point I was really angry and not interested in being berated. Especially since at this point he was yelling at the top of his lungs. I calmly asked for my check. He still wanting to engage yelled again “You don’t want your raw chicken now?” At this point my husband forcefully again asked for our check. The chef stormed off and our waitress came with our check apologizing, and begging us “Please don’t give us a bad review on your site, or on Yelp. He is just having a bad night, his son is running the kitchen”. We did not punish her and gave her a 20% tip,, especially since she has to work with this rude, disrespectful chef daily.
In conclusion don’t give this joint a try unless you really like bad food and abuse. Go to Cafe Azul instead; where the chef is friendly and kind, and food is good.
