I have thought about this review for a week and have torn feelings. When I lived in town, I had dined at this establishment several times and had great experiences. This experience in Cypress did not translate.
Please, don’t get me wrong it was not horrible. Unfortunately, it just did not live up to the high hopes I had for this new restaurant in Cypress based on past experience.
Let me say first, the decor and waitstaff were amazing. I had only been to former tenant Jaxton’s one time previously and was not impressed by either.
Our party of four decided to start with the spinach and artichoke dip. It was very tasty full of spinach and bits of artichoke. The table was happy.
After a satisfying start we all chose our entree’s. Our table mates chose the loaded baked potato soup’ as well as the certified 14. ounce Angus rib eye.
My husband chose the chicken piccata, myself the cimichurri hangar steak. The side for our table mate having steak was a basic garlic mash, my husband’s pasta. I however was promised a cheesy jalapeno side of grits.Everyone at the table seemed overall happy with their entrees, but complained about the size in compariso to price. I however; patronizing the first location found myself disappointed. My hangar steak came out more rare the medium rare as I had requested. Not a real big deal for myself. The chimichurri was tasty but not enough for this particular cut of beef. The biggest abomination however were the grits. It was the consistency. They were like uncooked rice and flavorless. I love cheesy spicy smooth grits, but these grits did not resemble that dish.
Overall, I would give this restaurant an OK. It seems to suffer from quality issues due to expansion. I can only wish, with time I can come there again; and have a meal that bring back memories of the original.
