If you live in Texas and don’t crave a breakfast taco, this is not the state for you. Taco trucks, Taquerias, and Tex – Mex restaurants reign in our great state of Texas. Everyone; including myself are always looking for a good joint in our neighborhood.
So, needless to say I was quite excited to give this new place a try. I did have high expectations of Chilosos because the original location is in the Heights. I lived in The Heights area of Houston for 10 + years; and can attest it is a very foodie driven area. Bad restaurants do not last long there. My husband and myself went on a Saturday morning, and were pleasantly surprised that we did not have to wait long for service. The ambience was quite typical for a Mexican restaurant but also felt clean an uncomplicated.
We were both in breakfast taco mode, and were pleased by the variety of choices. My husband decided to try the egg and Jimmy Dean Taco. He ordered two and added both potato and cheese. I went a little simple by ordering the egg and potato adding cheese. I also ordered a cup of coffee. Why is this important you may ask? I was in the coffee industry for 11 years. I am somewhat of a coffee snob. I have to say I was quite pleased with my morning treat of coffee. Now, let’s talk tacos. One of the pluses, is that the tortillas are homemade in house. Patrons can see them being made right as it happens In a very timely matter our tacos arrived. I have to say; you do not have to worry about skimpy tacos. These bad boys were filled past capacity. We both enjoyed the accompanying sauces. If I had one complaint it would be the homemade tortillas. Don’t get me wrong, the taste was fabulous. The consistency was a little troublesome. My tortilla was a overly thick, whereas my husband’s where very thin.
Overall I think you should welcome Chilosos – Fresh Mex Kitchen & Cantina and give them a try.
