Since I was a child I have been a huge fan of Chinese Cuisine. My parent’s and I were frequent patrons of the Peacock Kitchen near Reynoldsburg, Ohio. When my parents and I moved into the Cy – Fair area, we were regulars every Friday night at The Pearl River restaurant. The food from both of these icons still hang in my memory. As such, I have really high expectations when indulging my Chinese fix.
.
My foodie friend and myself decided to try Fang’s Bistro for lunch. When we arrived we were greeted promptly, and given a quite lengthy menu. Fang’s Bistro not only features Chinese cuisine, but Sushi as well. Looking at the menu, my foodie friend and I decided to try and experience both sides of the menu. I chose the Chinese lunch special, she decided to try the sushi lunch special. My lunch special included an entree, soup, rice (white or fried) and an egg roll or crab Rangoon. I decided to try their shrimp with lobster sauce, wonton soup, and an egg roll. My foodie friend chose the two roll lunch special. This choice included miso soup, and salad. She ordered her favorite spicy tuna roll, and a California roll.
The food arrived promptly and in oreder. I hate it when you get your appetizers and have no time to eat them when your main course arrives. Fang”s Bistro had the timing right. My foodie friend commented her miso soup was just like any other miso soup, She also added her salad was entirely over dressed. Her sushi was textbook but incredibly small, approximately the size of a quarter. My wonton soup was also a standout, the egg rolls had great filling but also were quited small. My entree arrived and I was quite surprised a the distinct yell color of my sauce. Lobster sauce is historically is based in a chicken broth, Chinese cooking wine, and egg whites. You of coursce add cornstarch and water to thicken the sauce. I was a little leery but gave it a try, the sauce was good, the shrimp cooked well, but had concerns about the possibility the use of MSG.
All and all the food was for my taste and my food friend was quite pedestrian compared to other Chinese/Sushi food restaurants in the area.
They do have a good selections of selections however, I do not think it will be mt go to restaurant for my Chinese fix
