So fair readers, I relocated to Cypress, Texas approximately 4 years ago. There was a restaurant location on Hempstead Rd. that seemed to go through periods of construction followed by periods of abandonment. So to our surprise, the hubs and I were very pleased to see the completion of this neglected site. The new owners did a superb job creating a patio environment as well as creating enough parking to accommodate numerous patrons. The indoor décor is classic Texas style without going way over the top.
The hubs and myself have gone to this restaurant on two different occasions. The first visit was mid afternoon so we skipped appetizers. I ordered the Cypress Trail Chicken, and hubs ordered the Hideout Cheese Burger. The Cypress Trail Chicken consists of a grilled chicken breast, Mexican cheese, pico de gallo, charred corn salsa with a side of your choice. Being a good German girl of course mashed potatoes were my choice. The chicken was a great portion, grilled perfectly, and moist. The pico de gallo was a great addition, providing just the right amount of heat. The cheese as well as the charred corn salsa created a great balance of acidity. The mashed potatoes were great, creamy and chunky at the same time, with a buttery finish.
The hubs had the Hideout Cheese Burger it was a nice 8oz. patty, served with cheese of your choice. He chose American cheese which was served perfectly melted. The burger was served on a brioche bun which did not succumb to the juiciest of burgers. He also got a side of hand cut fries that were soft on the inside and crisp on the inside. Both the burger and fries were seasoned very well.
On our second visit we arrived earlier and were promptly seated. On this visit the hub decided to stay with the burger. I however; chose to branch out and try their Chicken Fried Steak. Hubby’s burger was up to par compared to our first visit. The Chicken Fried Steak was a bit small compared to most Texas sizes, but seasoned well. The batter did not separate from the meat which means it was fried at the correct temperature. A top of the steak is a jalapeno cream gravy that added just the right amount of spice. Again, the mashed potatoes were perfect however; my other side of green beans were a bit soggy for my taste.
Overall, our first two visits made us very satisfied. We have not yet tried their BBQ, but will try it soon and let you know what we think.
